Why I love coaching

I love helping people get better (and faster). I went to school to be a teacher so I could help students learn and reach goals. Over time, I’ve come to understand I’m better suited to use my teaching skills outside of the traditional classroom. I strive to be a source of inspiration and I want people to live better, healthier, more active lives.

Coaching background

My formal running and triathlon coaching career began in 2010 but I had previously spent many years informally coaching runners and even more years on deck coaching swimming. My teaching and research background helps me understand how to effectively communicate and explain fundamentals and processes to athletes in a straightforward and uncomplicated manner. I use the same strategies I used in the classroom when I’m working with athletes of all ages and abilities.

Coaching beginners and elites

I work as an endurance coach for beginner groups, offer adult online swim, bike, run, and triathlon coaching and have often coached youth swim programs. As a US Master’s swim coach, I frequently coach private swim sessions. I coach athletes of all levels and capabilities to help them achieve their personal goals in triathlon. I coach Kona Ironman World Championship qualifiers and beginner 5k runners. The same principles apply to all types of athletes: consistency, focus on the process, and creating attainable goals.

Coaching for health conditions

While I’m not a medical professional, I am an educator and researcher by trade. I use these two skill sets to help me work with athletes who experience a range of medical issues in their life. My own experiences with Meniere’s Disease and Pulmonary Embolisms provides me with a unique perspective. Working with athletes who deal with auto-immune disorders and vestibular disorders is my specialty. If you think I might be able to help you but you’re unsure based on your medical history, please do not hesitate to ask.

Skills and competencies

Over the past 10+ years of coaching, I have learned my meticulous attention to detail and my ability to understand personalities allows my athletes to excel on and off the race-course. By focusing on consistency, processes, and utilizing technologies in training, I have been able to see great success with athletes helping them achieve first time finishes in everything from 5ks to ultras across a range of sports. Every year, athletes routinely achieve new heights they never thought possible while we work toward achievable goals. Keeping my education up with certifications from USA Triathlon, USA Cycling, and US Master’s Swimming helps too.

What are we training for

A happier life. A better life. The ability to overcome obstacles once thought impossible. To achieve success across your entire life from work to sports. Athletes who never thought it possible, earn age group podiums in local races AND Ironman and Ironman 70.3 races. We work toward qualification for the Boston Marathon and the Kona Ironman. We work to have discipline and efficiency. We do what we love and our lives become fuller 🙂
